'Sea Anemone' Table Light with Black Bronze
-
Description
From simple beechwood rods, German artist Pia Maria Raeder creates refined functional sculptures reminiscent of biomorphic forms. She has become globally known for her ’Sea Anemone’ collection that reflects the beauty found on the ocean floor. Each the fruit of hundreds of working hours, her ‘Sea Anemone’ sculptures are handcrafted from thousands of beechwood rods that are cut, sanded, arranged one by one and then lacquered. Emancipated from its limits, the wood hence transformed into undulating living forms is offered a newfound freedom.
Work by the artist is included in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
This ‘Sea Anemone’ Table Light Sculpture is made of 1,800 beech rods arranged one by one and then lacquered in light grey. The head encompasses three white and smoked grey blown glass elements. The base is made in shiny polished and texturized patinated bronze.
According to Pia Maria’s own words: 'This piece is both a table lamp inspired by Nature, and a peaceful, softly beaming creature with an endearing presence. It surprises us with a new appearance when you look at it from different angles.’ The breath of life seems to animate this organic creation, like the echo of a nature that is not imitated but is rather harnessed and experienced.
Launched in 2016, the ‘Sea Anemone’ collection now includes twenty pieces, encompassing many typologies in which function and poetry fuse: side and coffee tables, wall and freestanding mirrors, armchairs, chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps, vases. -
