Description
The manufacturer Søholm Stentøj (“Søholm Stoneware”) is one of the oldest and most revered names in Danish ceramics. It was founded in Rønne, on the Baltic island of Bornholm, in 1835 and became known for its distinctive ceramic designs, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. In the middle of the 20th century, Søholm produced a wide range of stoneware in various patterns and shapes, marrying practicality with artistry to create items that feel both grounded and elegant.
This large model “1033” ceramic table lamp captures the refined yet tactile elegance of the manufacturer and of Danish design in the 1960s. Known for their mastery of glazing techniques and attention to form, Søholm produced pieces that are as much decor elements as they are functional lighting. The lamp’s tall, tapering body sits with a grounded presence, adorned with deep, v-shaped ridges that allow the light to bounce and reflect, creating a soft play of tones. The pattern, alongside the overall shape of the body enhance the lamp’s architectural feel. The texture and colour variation, transitioning from deep blues to earthy greens creates a dynamic surface that rewards closer inspection. The unique finish represents a hallmark of Søholm’s glazing artistry. Completing the design, the linen shade with its scalloped edge introduces a softer, organic element, diffusing the light into a warm, ambient glow that contrasts beautifully with the cool, glossy ceramic beneath.
This lamp’s presence will enrich a room not only through illumination but also as a striking sculptural form. The combination of fine craftsmanship, distinctive glazing, and considered proportions makes this model “1033” a standout example of Søholm’s work and a collectible piece of Scandinavian design heritage.
