Description
The main principles of Swedish Modernism center around minimalism, simplicity and functionalism. This floor lamp achieves to follow these principles while offering plenty of visually arresting qualities, which include its gracefully curved body.
Surpassing the strict functionality many designers were concerned with, this model is a whimsical representation of the innovative experimentation in Scandinavian lighting design. Crafted almost entirely of rattan, this lamp has an organic feel to it. Rattan, used for everything from basket weaving to furniture making had found extensive use and appreciation in the context of modern 20th century design. Thanks to its unique characteristics, rattan adds an element of texture and lightness to the model. Not only is the stem of this piece remarkable, but the conical shade stands out as well. The simple mechanics of the lamp’s adjustable shade provide flexibility, allowing the user to direct the light exactly where it’s needed, making it as versatile as it is visually appealing. The craftsmanship involved in creating this piece is evident in the seamless construction and attention to detail, with no visible joints or interruptions in the design's flow. Through the use of a unique silhouette paired with natural materials, the maker achieved the ideal balance between classic timelessness and exceptional artistry. From the veneer base to the shade, with its natural colour palette, the impression of this piece is nostalgic, encapsulating the spirit of an era that embraced both heritage and progress.
The visual appearance is certainly the main focus of this model, but the exquisite craftsmanship also deserves to be highlighted. This floor lamp has the capacity to anchor and to define the surrounding space.
