Rare Inverted Hanging Fixture

Price Upon Request
  • Description
This unusual hanging shade was likely a custom commission produced by either Tiffany Studios or Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company around the turn of the twentieth century for the interior of “The Ramparts,” a grand home in Gloucester, Massachusetts built by railroad tycoon Commodore Henry Rouse. In the 1930s this fixture was given by the owners of the home to the caretaker, in whose family it descended for several generations.

This inverted hanging shade is comprised of a gridded background of yellow translucent “ripple” Tiffany Glass which subtly shifts to orange opaque ripple glass near the outer rim, decorated along the outer edge with an border of orange zig-zag design over green/yellow diamonds framed between two narrow border rows of matching orange glass.

This piece retains all of its original bronze hardware, including ceiling cap, six-armed “spider” ball fixture, and six beaded chains.
