Description
This sculptural Finnish table lamp is a masterful display of 20th century design sensibility and craftsmanship. Made in the 1970s by leading Finnish sculptor, Aimo Tukiainen (1917–1996), it captures the unique interplay of form and function that defined Nordic lighting design of the era. The lamp showcases the masterful mix of traditional materials and skill that sets its era’s craftsmanship apart.
This lamp’s defining feature is its distinctive copper structure, starting from its base and gracefully curving upward in a harmonious arrangement reminiscent of a sea shell. Copper, with its malleability and enduring beauty, was a favoured material throughout the 20th century period. It allowed artisans like Tukiainen to create intricate designs, such as this lamp's distinctive shell shape, which evokes a sense of modernity and organic harmony. The light emitted by this lamp has a soft glow that will add a cosy accent to any interior. With a combination of interesting design choices, this lamp has an innovative, modern look that highlights the piece’s purpose, being just as much a work of art as it is a utilitarian piece.
Adding illumination to a living space with this stylish table lamp will not only improve the ambience, but it will also bring a piece of design history to the space. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this model highlights the design prowess of Aimo Tukiainen and the works created at Oy Moonlight Ltd..
