Description
The mid-century modern era, spanning from the 1940s to the 1960s, brought a new approach to lighting design, emphasising simplicity, functionality, and the use of new materials. This model "59402" table lamp is a lovely example of some of the timeless works that emerged from the Swedish manufacturer, Uppsala Armaturfabrik.
Swedish lighting manufacturers were masters of creating works with great material and textural variety as this table lamp shows: the pairing of brass and wood creates an interesting visual effect, where the traditional look of the organic material meets the modern look of brass. The wooden body showcases the natural grain and rich tones of the material. The design is further characterised by its clean, geometric silhouette, with its marked roundness. The shape of the shade almost resembles a mushroom. The popularity of the mushroom-style shade has much to do with the heart-warming light emitted from its undeniably whimsical design; making cramped spaces feel cosy, especially with the brass’s nice warm tone. Another interesting design element can be found inside the shade; the beautifully bent brass light-bulb holders. The lamp is grounded by the round base, which resembles the shape of the shade. Thanks to its masterful sense of proportions, this piece is perfectly balanced visually. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this table lamp is also true to its mid-century heritage.
This lamp’s vintage appeal and enduring style also make it a perfect choice for those looking to add a touch of mid-century elegance to their decor.
