Carved Shell Mahogany Headboard, 19th Century
-
Description
This is a finely carved and gilt Italian Baroque period cartouche mirror that dates to the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. The cartouche form is surmounted by the head of a maiden who is crowned by a finely defined shell. The base of the mirror features a finely defined carved shell and volutes. The mirror plate appears to be original and is completely hazed over--which I personally love. This mirror is the perfect complement to an Italian, French or English chest of drawers or small buffet flanked by a pair of sconces or brackets.
