French 19th Century Gold Gilt Mantel Mirror

Dimensions: 85” H x 43 ¼” W x 2 ¾” D

A massive 19th century French gold gilt mantel mirror of proportionately thick egg & dart molding around the original mirror plate. The towering frame is of impressive scale, with bold definition between the smoothness of the protruding eggs and the variety of meticulously inscribed patterns outlining them, enhanced by deep red bole exposed by patination of the gold leaf. Foxing of the original mirror glass appears in random dashes and spots of dark oxidation, otherwise the reflection is still quite clear to enlarge and illuminate any room. Standing over 7’ tall, the mirror could be used a full-length to engage more directly with the exquisite details. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
