Mario Bellini Camaleonda for B&B Italia, 1970s, 16 Pieces, New Bouclé

Mario Bellini's Camaleonda, designed in 1970 for C&B Italia (later B&B Italia), the name joins camaleonte and onda, chameleon and wave. Included in MoMA's 1972 exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, and one of the few 1970s designs that never left circulation.

Shown is one possible composition. Nothing here is fixed - modules connect with the original cable, hook and carabiner system, and seats, backrests and armrests are all independent elements. A long sofa, facing loveseats, a conversation pit, single lounge chairs: the same set becomes any of them. This is the point of the design.

Fully reupholstered in a soft oatmeal bouclé. Each module was stripped to the frame, foam and internal cabling checked, and the deep capitonné tufting rebuilt by hand. Detail photos of the hardware and undersides available on request — nothing about the process is hidden.
