Pair of Bertil Söderberg Armchairs in Mahogany for Nordiska Kompaniet, 1940s
-
Description
This rare pair of armchairs was designed by Bertil Söderberg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden in the 1940s. The elegant shape of the design is emphasized by the buttoned wing shaped back and seat. The mahogany frame is connected with single slats on the sides and the front, and two slats on the back. The armrests are partly upholstered and finished with bronze colored upholstery nails. The chairs were recently reupholstered in a yellow wool fabric, with a matching decorative trim on the back side.
The design was produced by Stockholm’s high end department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), who manufactured and retailed furniture designs by a number of renowned Swedish Modern designers including Axel Einar Hjorth, Elias Svedberg, Carl-Axel Acking and Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist. This particular design by Bertil Söderberg was used in the interior of the Vingården restaurant in Stockholm. Both chairs are marked with a metal NK plate. -
