Brazilian Modernist Lounge Chair in Ebony-Stained Pau Marfim with Oatmeal Bouclé

Description
A sculptural Brazilian Modernist lounge chair from the 1950s defined by its bold, architectural stance and exceptional material contrast. Crafted from pau marfim (ivory wood) and finished in a deep ebony stain, the sharply tapered legs and angular arm supports frame a generously contoured seat and back, producing a dynamic silhouette that feels both grounded and weightless.
The chair has been newly upholstered in dense warm oatmeal bouclé with a tight loop pile and matte texture, a tactile fabric that highlights the chair’s fluid curves while introducing a refined softness against the graphic dark frame. Brass metal studs punctuate the profile, emphasizing the chair’s sinuous form and reinforcing its handcrafted construction.
Though the designer remains unidentified, the piece strongly reflects the expressive vocabulary of Brazilian mid-century design, where sculptural geometry, dramatic contrasts, and superb woodworking converge. The result is a lounge chair that reads as both a functional seating piece and a striking collectible object—equally compelling as a standalone accent, reading chair, or anchor within a curated Brazilian Modern interior. -
