Description
This exceptionally rare armchair was designed by Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs in the 1940s and produced by his company, Hiort Tuote Puunveisto, in Finland. It is one of Hiort af Ornäs' earlier designs and was part of a small production run at his workshop. The chair is stamped with the manufacturer's mark on the underside of the frame.
The design is characterized by its high, rounded back and elegantly curved lines, making it a very comfortable and embracing armchair to sit in. It is currently upholstered in a teal velvet fabric. The robust, wedge-shaped legs, made of solid lacquered beech wood, create a sculptural base for the chair.
The chair is in overall good condition. The velvet upholstery has minor imperfections, including scratches and a small hole, so reupholstery is recommended. The legs show minor wear consistent with age and use. -
