Description
The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, is one of the most celebrated furniture designs of the twentieth century. Combining the warmth of molded wood with the softness of leather upholstery, the chair was conceived as a modern interpretation of the classic English club chair—luxurious, comfortable, and timeless.
This example features beautifully grained rosewood veneer shells paired with supple black leather cushions, creating the iconic contrast that has defined the model for decades. The sculptural plywood shells cradle thick, button-tufted cushions, while the die-cast aluminum base allows the chair to swivel gracefully while maintaining a grounded presence.
The Eames Lounge Chair was revolutionary at the time of its introduction, demonstrating how industrial production could achieve both precision and comfort. The molded plywood construction, refined proportions, and attention to ergonomics established the chair as a benchmark in modern furniture design. Today it remains a cornerstone of modern interiors and one of the most recognizable designs ever produced.
This example retains its original Herman Miller labeling, confirming its authenticity and production lineage from the Eames Office. The rosewood shells display particularly rich figuring, adding depth and warmth to the composition and highlighting the craftsmanship that makes these chairs so enduringly desirable.
Dimensions:
Chair: 33.5"W x 32"D x 42.5"H
Seat height: 16"
Ottoman: 26"W x 23"D x16.5"H
Paired with the matching ottoman, the set provides exceptional comfort while maintaining the sculptural elegance that has made the design an enduring icon for nearly seventy years. -
