Description
This striking set of four dining chairs was produced by the French manufacturer Ebénisterie Seltz in the 1970s. The design is executed in solid oak. The dynamic, contrasting lines of the three-legged base give the chairs a sculptural and attractive appearance. The centrally placed front leg continues in a curved shape upwards, where it forms the middle part of the backrest. The two, slightly outward bending back legs meet at the front of the seat in a diagonal line. Both the backrest and seat area are composed of three rectangular panels of oak wood. The seat with a circular, slightly lowered round shape, which offers additional seating comfort. The backrest with a carved detail in a stadium shape, originally designed to handle/move the chairs. Ebénisterie Seltz was a small, family run wood workshop in the Alsace region. Pierre Chapo selected this company to produce some of his designs in the 1970s and 1980s. Mostly working with solid oak and elm wood, their way of working was based on great respect for the material and the use of elegant, simple and functional shapes. The chairs are in very good original condition, with a beautiful natural patina on the wood. One chair with a small restoration below the seat (not visible when placed normally).
