Finn Juhl Chieftain Chair and Ottoman by Baker
-
Description
This is the most important of Finn Juhl's chair designs. Shown at the Cabinetmakers Guild in 1949, Denmark's King Frederik is claimed to have sat in the chair and so it was called the Cheiftain or Egyptian Chair. Finn Juhl signed a contract with Baker Furniture Company in 1951 to produce a series of furniture and introduce Danish design into the US market. Baker produced the Cheiftain Chair for a very short period in the 1950s. Then in the 1990s Baker reintroduced the Chieftain Chair for a very short period.
This chair and ottoman is from the 1990s. The upholstery is a soft suede that would benefit from a cleaning. -
