Description
This fiberglass zig-zag chair, produced in Italy during the 1970s, exemplifies a period of experimentation in which traditional furniture typologies were reinterpreted through new materials and expressive forms. The continuous Z-shaped profile eliminates conventional legs and supports, creating a visually dynamic structure that appears both minimal and sculptural. Executed in fiberglass and finished in a vivid red tone.
The form recalls the conceptual principles introduced by Gerrit Rietveld in the 1930s, yet this example belongs firmly to the context of 1970s Italian design, where radical and postmodern tendencies encouraged reinterpretation and material innovation. Fiberglass, widely adopted during this period, allowed for fluid, monolithic constructions that challenged traditional woodworking techniques. This chair can be understood within that broader movement, where designers and manufacturers explored the boundaries between object, sculpture, and functional seating, resulting in pieces that remain visually compelling and conceptually relevant. Priced individually. -
