Description
This 20th century French chair reflects a rural folk tradition in which function and expressive carving are closely intertwined. Hand-carved from solid wood, the piece incorporates a stylised human presence within its structure, where the backrest, arms, and supports merge into a cohesive, sculptural composition. Rather than relying on explicit representation, the form remains restrained, allowing the figurative reference to emerge subtly through proportion and gesture.
The surface reveals a warm, aged patina with visible tool marks and natural irregularities that speak to its handcrafted origin. Its naive yet deliberate proportions reflect a vernacular approach, likely rooted in regional craftsmanship or individual expression rather than formal design authorship. Both functional and evocative, the chair embodies a quiet dialogue between utility and sculptural presence. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care. - More Information
