Description
Set of 6 CH23 dining chairs designed by iconic furniture designer Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in Denmark c. 1950’s. The oak and teak wood frames have been restored to excellent vintage condition to showcase the Wegnerian joinery details in the backrest. The back is teak and the details are oak. The seats feature new Danish cord that retains the integrity of the original weave work. This set of dining chairs are a perfect example of a Danish Modern chair and why Wegner's designs have set the standard.
The CH23 Dining Chair was one of the first chairs Hans J. Wegner designed for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950. His collection of designs at this time set new standards for modern furniture design with their lightness, artistic expression and ergonomic shape. The chair offered an early example of Wegner's unique flair for design and his insightful craftsmanship. The CH23 chair's seemingly simple design reveals many refined details, including the elegant, cruciform deck plugs in the back, a double-braided seat and a slightly outward-facing inclination on the rear legs, which ensures optimal stability.
The design is, as always, true to Wegner's original hand-drawn sketches with all aesthetic and structural components intact.
