A pair of Candidate lounge chairs, designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen, Denmark, 1950s.
This elegant pair of Danish easy chairs beautifully captures the refined, sculptural style that makes Kofod-Larsen’s work so timeless. Crafted in solid teak, the frames balance strength and lightness - gently curved armrests flow naturally into the rear legs, while the tapered front legs lend a sense of poised stability. The lines are clean but never cold; each joint is carefully resolved, highlighting the rhythm and richness of the wood grain.
The open slatted back and elastic seat webbing give the chairs a sense of airiness and comfort. Newly upholstered cushions in a soft, neutral fabric enhance the warmth of the teak, creating harmony between structure and touch. Professionally restored, the chairs retain their authentic vintage character—and are ready to be enjoyed for years to come.
Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921–2003) is celebrated for quiet mastery among Danish modern designers. Trained as an architect, he brought a sculptor’s eye and an artisan’s care to every piece—favoring flowing lines, organic transitions, and proportions that invite you to sit and linger. Working in fine woods like teak and rosewood, he sought to let the beauty of each material shine through in subtle details and pure forms. His designs, graceful and deeply human in scale, remain lasting icons of Scandinavian modernism.
