Attributed to James Graham
Boston, Massachusetts Circa 1770
Primary Wood: Mahogany
Secondary Wood: White Pine, Maple
Reference: For chairs with a very similar splat please see entry 61 of American Furniture with Related Decorative Arts – The Milwaukee Art Museum. The splat design is based on Plate 12 from Chippendale’s 1754 Director. For information on Graham please see Kemble Widmer, “A Scotsman, Thomas Chippendale and the Green Dragon Tavern,” in Boston Furniture, 1700-1900. In particular figures 7, 8, 9 and 18.
