Description
An elegant pair of Mid-Century Modern Neoclassical lounge chairs, armchairs or bergere in the style of Louis XVI by Maison Jansen. The armchairs are of the highest quality design and manufacture featuring a striking form and profile, perfect proportions, delicate rear saber legs, tapered arm rests, tapered and fluted carving on the front arms. The hand-carved wood frames and details were made in same way as in the 18th century and finished with a warm patina with yellowish and blue-grey tones surfacing through a white overlay. Shown in photos unrestored. Literature: A similar pair of chairs is shown in Jansen Furniture by James Archer Abbott, Acanthus Press, New York, 2007, p. 76.
