Description
Kangaroo chairs designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh’s General Hospital Hall, crafted from solid teak and intricately braided cane. These iconic chairs became integral to the city’s furniture landscape, blending modern European aesthetics with traditional Indian influences. Jeanneret’s designs are celebrated for their simplicity and elegance. This low chair is defined by its unique "Z" shaped sides, formed by a sequence of three vaguely triangular, coplanar elements. The seat and backrest showcase a signature weaving technique within the wooden frame. Found in both public buildings and private residences, the chair symbolizes Chandigarh's mid-century design. Notably, the chairs were made from trees harvested during the city's construction, reflecting an early commitment to sustainability. Their eco-friendly origin further adds to their historical value. Two chairs are available, priced individually
