Antique Gustavian Longcase Clock, Hand-Carved Pine, Sweden, 1820

An exceptional antique longcase clock from Norrbotten in northern Sweden, dating to around 1820. Handcrafted in solid pine, the case is executed in the Gustavian style, distinguished by its elegant elongated proportions and richly hand-carved ornament throughout.

The decorative program is especially striking, with carved scrolls, fan motifs, and neoclassical detailing that reflect the refined provincial craftsmanship of Sweden’s northern regions. Its original hand-scraped painted surface from the 1820s survives beautifully, showing layered distress, natural wear, and a luminous patina that documents the clock’s history across two centuries.
