Description
A beautifully preserved and increasingly rare Borge Mogensen BookSelves in Teak and Oak, model No. 153, produced by C.M. Madsens Fabrikker for FDB Møbler in Denmark circa 1945.
These early FDB pieces represent the democratic ideals that shaped Scandinavian modernism — functional, honest design built with integrity and restraint. Each cabinet is stamped to the reverse: one example marked “FDB” and the other “C.M. Madsens Fabriker” with model number “No. 153”, confirming authenticity and early production.
Constructed in warm, richly grained teak cases resting on solid oak bases, the contrast between the teak and lighter oak legs creates a subtle architectural rhythm that feels distinctly Danish. The sculptural braced leg structure adds both visual lightness and structural integrity — a detail we particularly admire.
Together, the pair offers sixteen total adjustable shelves, allowing for flexible storage of books, objects, ceramics, or display pieces. The depth is refined and practical, making them ideal for residential interiors, design studios, or curated retail environments.
What makes this pair exceptional:
Authentic FDB Møbler production, Denmark c. 1945
Stamped manufacturer’s marks and model number
Early post-war Danish modern design
Sixteen adjustable shelves total
Teak cabinetry with contrasting solid oak bases
Architectural, braced leg construction
Rare to find as a true pair
FDB Møbler was instrumental in shaping the Danish Modern movement — emphasizing accessibility, craftsmanship, and clean, rational forms. Pieces from this early era carry both historical importance and enduring aesthetic value.
At Hobbs Modern, we are particularly drawn to designs that balance utility with sculptural presence. These bookcases feel light despite their capacity, grounded yet refined — quintessential Scandinavian modernism.
Perfect for collectors of Danish design, architects, and interiors seeking authentic mid-century warmth and material honesty.
