English 19th Century Faux Bois Painted Chest

$ 2,600
  • Description
    Dimensions: 41” H x 43” W x 19 ¼” D

    A unique “grain painted” chest of drawers from England circa 1880 that showcases the imaginative talents of the artist. This Federal-style chest is low and wide, featuring a decorative, serpentine panel rising from the back side that is painted with a mesmerizing chevron design. A rather substantial case of four drawers opening by large, turned wood knobs is entirely handpainted to appear as if inlaid with fine strips of marquetry around the drawerfronts surrounding “bookmatched” central panels with the implied movement that feels both expansive and magnetic. Cleaned, tightened and polished with a French paste wax to preserve the extraordinary technique this antique chest is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition as there are a few areas of abrasion and other patina.
