French 19th Century Burl Wood & Greek Key Enfilade
-
Description
A stunning French enfilade in burl maple with Neoclassical sensibility. The exterior of the cabinetry appears glowing from the translucent, sinuous wood grain. A pinstripe border of ebonized inlay on the top creates definition around the rippled, well-patinated veneer. Three drawers can be found in the frieze which open by concave brass knobs decorated in a floral and foliate motif. The drawers offer a custom lining in luxurious burgundy velvet. Separating the drawers from the doors below is an inlaid, ebonized Greek key pattern. Three paneled doors with beveled frames also feature an inlaid ebonized border. The left and center doors open as one cabinet, secured by lock and key, with a 15 ½” deep shelf. The veneer on the middle door has been repaired to be as inconspicuous as possible. Behind the right door is another cabinet, with a single shelf, 15 ½” deep, and secured by another lock and key. The entire enfilade is lifted by stylized bracket feet which are also traced with an ebonized outline. Please view the detailed images to see the very special details and current condition of this rare find.
