Description
Pair of antique ormolu mounted vitrine cabinets by L'Escalier de Cristal
French, Late 19th Century
Height 178cm, width 105cm, depth 55cm
Crafted in the late 19th century, this exquisite pair of vitrines comes from the esteemed Parisian firm, L'Escalier de Cristal, a renowned luxury manufacturer and retailer celebrated for its fine furniture and decorative items. Known for collaborating with illustrious designers such as Émile Gallé, the firm produced exceptional pieces, such as this fine pair.
Designed in the elegant Louis XVI style, each vitrine features a striking glass display case with a single shelf. The glass panes, framed in brass, offer clear visibility from three sides, allowing for a full view of the objects within. A bijouterie display case extends forward from the upper section, mirroring the same elegant construction, and providing a distinctive enhancement to these antique vitrines. The interiors are lined with plush blue velvet, creating a refined backdrop for showcasing treasured items.
The lower frieze is beautifully decorated with quarter-veneered panels, framed by a beaded ormolu border, adding to the overall opulence of the design.
Supported by four gracefully tapering toupie legs, each adorned with intricate detailing similar to the frieze above, the vitrines stand with remarkable poise. The legs are crowned with ormolu ionic columns draped in laurel swags, while their bases are finished with ornate ormolu sabots, which serve both a decorative and protective function.
Marked with ‘Escalier de Cristal / Paris’, this pair is a perfect addition to any interior, whether for residential or commercial spaces, offering a stunning way to display valuable objects or fine jewellery.
