Description
Designed in 1967 by Pierre Chapo, the B17B bookshelf exemplifies his approach to furniture as a balance of structure, proportion, and material. Constructed entirely in solid elm, the piece is composed of a modular framework in which vertical supports and horizontal shelves are assembled through precise joinery, allowing the structure to remain fully visible and legible. The composition is both rational and adaptable, reflecting Chapo’s interest in clarity and function.
Elm, Chapo’s preferred material, brings warmth and character to the design through its expressive grain and tonal variation. The visible joints emphasize craftsmanship and reinforce the architectural quality of the piece, while the open construction creates a sense of lightness and rhythm. -
