A Swedish chest of drawers, circa 1840, in an unusually useful tall, narrow format. Chests of this compact width are far scarcer than standard sizes and solve real problems in furnishing: fitting between windows, into a small bedroom, or in a hallway where a full-width commode would overwhelm. The chest displays the restrained lines and honest construction of Swedish work from the period, with a surface mellowed by more than 180 years of use. Its drawers provide generous practical storage relative to its footprint. A charming, adaptable case piece with wear consistent with age, suited to bedside use, dressing rooms, and entries alike.
