Description
This elegant Art Deco Smoked Beveled Mirrored Vanity with Silvered Bronze Pulls originated in the United States, circa 1940. Composed as a kneehole dressing table with twin pedestals and a central recessed knee space, the case presents stacked drawers whose fronts are framed with stepped, scalloped mirror mouldings and a top surface of smoked glass finished with precision beveling that catches and softens reflected light. A vertically reeded mirror apron and faceted corner pilasters give the composition a rhythmic profile while contributing dimensional depth to the case. The arrangement of reflected planes and linear moldings establishes a strong geometric rhythm while allowing the smoked finish to temper overall brightness. The drawer hardware is silvered bronze, each knob a round embossed floral medallion set on a turned boss that evokes classical inspiration and provides a warm metallic counterpoint to the glass surfaces. Mirrored cladding is mounted to an underlying wood carcass that rests on a dark plinth base, creating a thoughtful contrast between luminous planes and a grounded support and reinforcing the piece's sculptural presence in a room. It remains. The piece is in very good vintage condition.
