New Expansion Dining
-
Description
This version of the New dining table expands from 84" to 102" to 120". The distinctive, angular, solid walnut base is hand-sculpted and joined with mortise and tenon joinery. The curved- edge top is solid ebonized mahogany that is burnished to allow the rich color and grain of the mahogany to show through, selectively. The two halves of the top pull apart on smooth sliding equalized expansion slides. Three butterfly leaves store neatly under the top and fold out easily into place to create either of the two longer lengths. This table is a made to order piece with several customization possibilities. In this pictured table, the natural defects of the mahogany (occasional worm holes etc) were filled with a bronze powder and epoxy inlay for subtle, handsome accents. If no expansion capabilities were needed, a very handsome fixed top version could be created of desired length with the elimination of the "subtop" which houses the leaves and hardware.
