French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany Desk
-
Description
Dimensions: 30 ½” H x 44 ¼” W x 26 ¾” D
A French 19th century Louis XVI style leather-topped mahogany writing desk with hidden extensions on each side to add occasional surface area, finished in turreted corners. The top surface is mottled in patina–which suits the beautiful striations of the mahogany grain–with a few areas of heavy scratches otherwise the scrolling pattern of the gold tooling is still visible. The coordinating leaves have some apparent wear although not quite to the same degree. Two small drawers occupy the case, retaining their working locks behind classic Louis XVI escutcheons of tied bows, each drawer using its own key. Note that the backside is thoughtfully decorated with the same escutcheons to give a finished appearance if floating in the room. Fluted legs taper elegantly down to the floor terminating in brass sabot feet. At home or in an office, this antique mahogany desk is sure to inspire. Recently refinished with stain and French paste wax to preserve every historic feature, please view the detailed images to see more.
