Description
Italian design from the 1960s often balanced boldness with subtle detailing. This vintage dining table is no exception. Combining sculptural lines with rich materials, it reflects a period when craftsmanship and innovation went hand in hand.
Design
The design begins at the floor, where circular brass feet provide a functional base. Each foot is height-adjustable, allowing for precise leveling, and is topped with a rosewood cap that gives a nod to fine joinery. The Y-shaped brass legs extend upward, braced by a central beam that floats just above the ground. This beam is decorated with nine evenly spaced rosewood blocks that clamp around the brass structure—geometric and decorative at once. Two broad, tapering wooden wings in rosewood enclose each upright support and add a rhythm of symmetry and mass to the whole construction.
Above this base sits a mahogany tabletop with a clean facet edge. Its surface offers warmth and contrast against the cooler brass tones and darker rosewood. The combination of these three materials—each left visible and unembellished—creates a calm yet detailed presence. Proportions are well judged, with ample space for seating and plenty of visual interest beneath the surface.
Designed to be both functional and sculptural, this table offers more than utility. It draws attention without imposing, and invites use without compromise.
Condition
The table has been carefully restored in our studio, including a new finish on the top. Some light signs of wear remain visible, in keeping with the character and age of the piece. -
