Louis XV Style Tiered Desk In Burr Walnut, 19th Century
-
Description
A finely crafted Louis XV–style tiered desk from eastern France, dating to the late 19th century. Executed in walnut and richly figured burr walnut, this elegant flat desk features a full-width upper tier fitted with four small drawers, a central cupboard door, and two open niches, creating both visual rhythm and functional storage. The tier is animated by curved forms and careful proportions, typical of the Louis XV revival.
The shaped belt opens to a wide central drawer; concealed within are two secret compartments, one to each side. The desk stands on four finely carved cabriole legs terminating in stylized sabots. Designed as a true all-sided piece, the back is fully veneered in burr walnut and carved, allowing placement either against a wall or at the center of a room.
The surface and structure display a beautiful matte, waxed blond patina. No restorations are noted. The desk is well suited for modern use, including as a computer or writing desk, while retaining strong decorative presence and craftsmanship.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
