1970s American Modern Round Burl Wood Center Occasional Table

Striking vintage American Modern burl wood center table, dating to the 1970s, featuring a richly figured book-matched burl veneer and a clean architectural silhouette characteristic of the period.

The circular top displays dramatic swirling burl grain in warm honey, amber and golden-brown tones. A substantial straight apron follows the perimeter of the top, while four gently tapered legs create a restrained, sophisticated profile. The simplicity of the form allows the highly figured burl surface to become the primary decorative element.

The table is unmarked, and we are therefore listing the maker as unknown. Its combination of luxurious burl veneer, geometric construction and understated proportions recalls the glamorous furniture produced during the 1970s by designers and manufacturers such as Milo Baughman, Edward Wormley, Karl Springer, Henredon and Mastercraft. At 34 inches in diameter, the table is particularly versatile for interior designers. Its 25-inch height makes it suitable as a center table, occasional table, large side table, end table, lamp table or sculptural accent table. Condition: The burl wood veneer appears to be in good vintage condition overall. The clear lacquer finish is lifting, separating and flaking in several areas, particularly around portions of the top edge and at some of the leg/apron junctions, as documented in the photographs. Refinishing is recommended. We believe the underlying burl veneer remains largely sound based upon the areas visible to us, although its complete condition cannot be guaranteed until the existing finish is removed. Additional age-appropriate wear is present.
