Description
PAIR OF HOLLYWOOD REGENCY GILT BRONZE AND BLACK GRANITE DEMILUNE CONSOLE TABLES
Manner of Maison Jansen
Probably France, circa 1950
26 3/8" H x 12 1/4" D x 24 1/8" W
A refined pair of demilune consoles, each is fitted with a polished black granite top flecked with copper inclusions that lend warmth and subtle depth to the surface. The tops are framed by a gilt bronze edge resting on a base of slender crossed stretchers joined by small rosettes at the intersections. The tapering legs terminate in delicate animal paw feet.
Curator’s Note:
The understated geometry, precise metalwork and juxtapositions of austerity and opulence echoes the work of celebrated Parisian decorators such as Maison Jansen and Maison Baguès, both of whom favored elegant gilt bronze structures paired with natural stone surfaces. These designers were masters of reinterpreting antiquity into forms that were timeless but also fresh and contemporary in the modern interior.
Condition: Fine restored condition. Minor tarnish and surface history to the aged bronze. Several replaced nuts. Minor waviness to the brass arms. Ready to place.
