A refined piece of Italian craftsmanship, this dining table evokes the mid-century elegance often associated with the work of Paolo Buffa. With its clear architectural structure and decorative surface detailing, the table bridges functionality and aesthetic intent.

Design
The design is defined by a checkered inlay on the tabletop, composed of alternating light and medium wood tones (maple), due to the changing of direction. Each square is precisely placed, emphasizing geometric rhythm across the surface. Corners are softly rounded and continue seamlessly into the legs, which are built from stacked wooden elements that echo the inlay pattern.

This construction creates a sense of flow from top to base. The legs are also subtly tapered inward, lending a balanced visual weight. What appears simple at first glance is the result of considerable precision in the inlay work and shaping. The contrast between the inlaid checkerboard and the darker edge banding (most probably mahogany) adds visual depth while staying grounded in a restrained material palette.

This table sits well in the lineage of Italian decorative furniture from the 1940s to 1950s, where attention to detail and material articulation defined a new sense of modernity. While unsigned, its overall design vocabulary closely mirrors Buffa’s known work, both in structure and surface.

Condition
The piece is in very good condition and is partially restored. The top shows light wear consistent with age, and the inlay is intact and even. The table is structurally sound.
