Description
This elegant console was manufactured in Italy in the late 1930s. The console together with the stools (in the second picture) was part of the interior of a private villa in Milan. The design is attributed to Piero Portaluppi. The set was likely placed in the ladies dressing room and used as a vanity desk. The design is marked by the refined details and high level of craftsmanship of its construction. The placement of the horizontal crossed side bars between the outward positioned legs are exemplary for the early Italian Modern era and are a recurring motif in the work of Portaluppi. This crossed shape is repeated in the shelf constructed below the drawers. The two pull out drawers with brass handles in a circular flower shape. The console is made of solid and venereed chestnut wood which has been finished in a brown stain. The console is in very good original condition, with a few minor retouches done by our restorer, respecting and retaining the original patina and finish.
