French Robert and Jean Cloutier ceramic coffee table 1950s

  • Description
Robert and Jean Cloutier were ceramicists who viewed their work as art, with a functionality as perhaps a secondary purpose. This coffee table by the twin design duo can be converted into artwork to be hung on the wall, as the legs can be removed.
The ceramic table surface made in lava explodes with warm color and invention. Organic-feeling blocks of colors like rust red, hot orange, and earthy brown form an eye-catching pattern across the top. Splattered throughout are colored craters, like those caused by a volcanic eruption. The craters and other geometric shapes in relief are filled with glass so that the coffee table is fully functional as a smooth surface. The brushed steel legs and “frame” around the table’s surface complement the vibrant energy of the piece with their industrial look. A true standout from the Cloutier brothers, this coffee table is a unique find.
