Description
This antique bangle bracelet dating from circa 1880 is set with approximately 9.00 carats of diamonds mounted in silver-topped gold. The hinged form is designed with the motif of a multi-strand old mine-cut diamond ribbon-bow centered by a knot. This lovely ribbon bangle sits lightly on the wrist, a charming confection of sparkling old diamonds.
Size: 6.825" interior circumference
Materials: 47 old mine-cut and 10 rose-cut diamonds (approximate total weight 9.00 carats); Silver-topped gold
In the late 19th century, bangles were de rigeur, beloved then as now. It was not uncommon for fashionable women to stack four per arm. In addition to plain gold examples, the wider bangles of the 1880s were topped with flowerhead clusters and checkerboard motifs, while ribbons and knots, an ancient motif for bracelets favored by the Greeks, were also popular. -
