This earring design may appears to have been the forerunner of today's Van Cleef & Arpels "Palmyre" collection. In this period, as in the Art Deco, Van Cleef & Arpels turned to creative and highly adept manufacturing jewelers such as André Vassort to help realize its new ideas and designs. A favorite collaborator of the most prestigious Parisian houses, André Vassort's background and training remains shrouded in romance and mystery, but with his hallmark registered in the 1940s, the jeweler opened an independent premises in 1955. It was situated in the first arrondissement near the Opera and the Palais Royale, within easy walking distance of the Place Vendôme and rue de la Paix. Thus well located, he could easily maintain constant contact with the top maisons for whom he manufactured - Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Mauboussin - to facilitate the constant back and forth and readjustment that realizing great jewelry designs entails. -
