Pierre Giraudon
French
Pierre Giraudon (1923–2012) was a visionary French designer whose work fused science, nature, and art through the innovative use of resin. Originally trained as a biologist, Giraudon developed techniques in the late 1940s to encapsulate organic materials—such as plants, coral, and mechanical fragments—within clear plastic, creating sculptural forms that were both educational and decorative. In the 1960s and ’70s, his studio produced a wide range of striking objects, including lamps, tables, and resin blocks, often paired with chrome or gilt bases. These pieces reflect a bold, surreal aesthetic that defined French mid-century modern design. Though he resisted the label of “artist,” Giraudon’s work remains celebrated for its originality, curiosity, and seamless blend of the natural and industrial worlds.
