Reference: This highboy is illustrated and discussed in Brock Jobe, Gary Sullivan and Jack O’Brien Harbor & Home: Furniture of Southeastern Massachusetts 1710-1850, pages 236-238, number 82. It was exhibited in the related show at Winterthur, Spring 2009 and at the Nantucket Historical Society, Summer-Fall 2009.
Provenance: Caleb William Prouty (1810-1876) of Scituate, Massachusetts; to his son John Ensign Otis (born 1840); to his daughter Mary Welthea Prouty (born 1873); to her daughter Hilda M. Stenbeck (born about 1907); to a descendant. -
