    .Beautiful bronze and ivory Art Deco figure of a gypsy dancer by the French sculptor, Theophile-Francois Somme. Done circa 1920. Signed on bronze base. Sits on original marble pedestal in fine condition. Provenance: New York City collector.

    Theophile Somme (French, 1871 ~ 1952) Somme was born in Nancy in 1871 and became a sculptor. He exhibited many of his works in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he was a member from 1899. In 1902 he was awarded a commendation and in 1924 he won a silver medal. In 1925 he won a gold medal followed by another gold at the Exposition Internationale of 1937, where he was awarded the hors concours. Many of his works were produced in bronze and the combination of bronze and ivory.
