Prof. Georg Kleeman was well known and respected for his incredible Art Nouveau jewelry especially his Plique a Jour pieces. The flying bat pendant is signed on the reverse with the initials GK in a cartouche and 935 for sterling silver. Kleemann often collaborated with Theodor Fahner in making great Art Nouveau pieces of jewelry. The Plique a Jour (translucent enamel) flying bat or Fledermaus as it is known in German culture is in perfect condition, and hangs from a six pointed star bale studded with small crystal paste stones with a larger crystal at the center. The body of the bat is also studded with small crystal paste stones and his eyes have two cabochon rubies. At the bottom of the pendant hangs fresh water pearl. Measures 2 1/2 inches from top of bale to bottom of pearl and 1 3/4 inches wide. Bats have long been known to be a symbol of good fortune in many cultures especially in Asia. This is a magnificent example of Jugendstil jewelry. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
