J+G DESIGN is Jennifer Hunter and Georgie Tipper. People often ask us how J+G Design came to be. Our story officially began at Housing Works’ annual Design on a Dime event, where we were both participating in different capacities. Realizing that we were “related” through the family tree of design — both working for designers who hailed from Albert Hadley — we had an immediate and undeniable chemistry, stemming from our appreciation for classic design. With “uptown sensibility with downtown flair” as our mantra, J+G Design was established in 2013 in New York City.
We like to describe our aesthetic as traditional design as we see it through our lens — equal parts tailored and eclectic, glamorous and relaxed, bold and subtle. It is this unique balance that we strive for in every project. Recent design projects include a handsome loft in SoHo, a whimsical pied-à-terre in Gramercy, a modern brownstone in historic Brooklyn, a gut renovation in Connecticut, and a swank apartment in Washington, D.C. J+G Design was named “Five Under 30” and “Next Big Names” by Lonny Magazine, highlighted as a “Rising Star” in New York Cottages & Gardens, and has been featured in Elle Décor, House Beautiful, New York Magazine and Architectural Digest.
To bring our story full circle, we were honored to participate in the 10th annual Design on a Dime, where we first met, but for the first time as a company. We consider this to be one of the most meaningful and rewarding milestones for J+G Design.

Georgie: Elizabeth Kennedy, fashion designer. Her designs translate classic aesthetic for a new generation — something that Jen and I aim to achieve in all of our projects. |

 | Hidden talent totally unrelated to design: Jen: I have an insane memory. I can recall accurate details, names, stories, you name it. Georgie: I love to cook — Mexican, Indian, Moroccan — anything with lots of spices! |

Tell us something about you that is not in your bio .
We both attended The University of Texas, Austin and lived next door to one another, but never officially met until we moved to New York.
What excites you most about the design process?
Getting to source and select unique pieces for our client's home.

How do clients push you to think outside of the box and challenge you?
Most of our client base is in New York City so working within the framework of a New York City apartment has its challenges. We are constantly getting creative with space, trying to make every square inch functional..
Name an architect, artist or designer, living or dead, you’d love to collaborate with and why?
Fashion designer Elizabeth Kennedy! She is new to the scene, but her designs are classic and timeless. We also love that she is not afraid of color!

How does a design project start for you? Is there a particular element that you always start with that inspires the whole project?
We typically start with a foundation piece, for example the living room rug, and build from there, drawing out the accent colors. Sometimes it could be a client's treasured piece of art.
What is your favorite object in your home, and how and when did you acquire it?
We both love linens! Whether they were passed down from family or found on our travels, between the two of us we have a nice collection!

What is your dream project?
Really any project where we have creative freedom, but an Italian villa would do!
What is your favorite part of the install process?
The final stage where we add that last layer of art and accessories. It is what makes a house a home. We want to make our clients feel like they have lived there forever!
