Description
A rare and interesting item. This 16 page ledger invoice is for the year 1874 and relates to work carried out at Flass House, a large mansion near the village of Maulds Meaburn, Cumbria in Northern England for the brothers Wilkinson and Lancelot Dent. The Dent brothers were the wealthy owners of Dent & Co., a company trading tea and opium based in Hong Kong and the interiors to the house were originally designed to resemble those of houses at the treaty posts in the East. The house was commissioned around 1854 and this single invoice for the year 1874 for 619 pounds and 7 shillings, now the equivalent of USD 335,500 indicates the amount of money that was expended on the house.
