Description
This “Amicus” armchair by Antero Poppius, was designed in Finland in the 1970s.
This typical 1970s chair features a moulded fibreglass shell that makes this model immediately recognisable. The shell stands on a single base connecting the two parts of the armchair and comes with a swivel function. Finnish mask maker pioneer, Antero Poppius (1922-2005) isn’t primarily known as a furniture designer, rather for creating a collection of 80 masks, alongside his full-time job as an elementary school handcraft teacher. Poppius had expertise in the processing of fibreglass, thanks to his extensive knowledge of the material, he collaborated with Heikki Häiväoja to create fibreglass sculptures. This chair is a rare example of Poppius’s expertise utilised in furniture design, making it a unique piece.
Thanks to the glossy red colour, the organic shape, and lively visual appeal of this Amicus armchair, it will stand out in any space.
