Pair of Neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted French consoles
French, 19th Century
Height 90cm, width 130cm, depth 51cm
This pair of consoles is crafted from gilt bronze and marble mounted hardwood in the refined Louis XVI style. Each console is surmounted by a white marble top, the top edged by a pierced gilt bronze gallery. The apron below contains one large central drawer and a flanking spring-loaded drawer to each of the two curved sides. The top is supported by a backboard and four fluted shafts above the lower shelf, which in turn is raised by four tapered legs culminating in gilt bronze feet. Each console is mounted with superb gilt bronze elements, ranging from the galleries to the escutcheons. -
