Scandinavian Organic Midcentury Ceramic Vase by Gunnar Nyland for Rörstrand
-
Description
This striking and sophisticated vase was realized by the esteemed designer Gunnar Nyland for Rörstrand in Sweden, circa 1950. Meticulously executed by hand, it features a subtly bowed body that tapers towards each end to gently sloped shoulders; a cylindrical neck; and a circular mouth. Adorning the exterior of the olive taupe hued hand-painted body with organic vertical striations, resembling tree bark in a warm bone color. There is a painted dove gray band circumscribing the base of the neck, which beautifully complements the palate of the piece. This vase represents a first-rate example of Scandinavian midcentury ceramics by one of the era's great producers, sure to delight discerning collectors of the period. While it is a perfectly functional vase, ideal for presenting flower arrangements, it is also an objet d'art in its own right that would be a gorgeous addition atop any table, pedestal or etagere. It is signed by hand on the bottom "GN Sweden R"- corresponding the designer, producer and country of origin. Excellent condition.
